Friends of Wharfedale Greenway at Menston Primary School Summer Fair 2026
Friends of Wharfedale Greenway were delighted to attend the Menston Primary School Summer Fair 2026, sharing a stall with Climate Action Menston (CAM) and Menston Area Nature Trust (MANT). The fair was a fantastic community event, bringing together families, local organisations, and residents for an enjoyable afternoon of activities, conversations, and community spirit.
Community interest in climate action and active travel
Throughout the day, our volunteers had the pleasure of speaking with many enthusiastic visitors who were keen to learn more about the Wharfedale Greenway and the work being carried out by local groups to tackle climate change and improve active travel opportunities in and around Menston and the wider Wharfedale area.
We heard from:
- Residents interested in the latest Greenway developments and future plans.
- Families keen to understand how active travel can benefit local communities.
- Supporters looking for ways they could help champion the Greenway project.
- Visitors discovering the Friends of Wharfedale Greenway for the first time and learning about its potential to provide safer, greener connections across Wharfedale.
It was encouraging to hear so much positive feedback and enthusiasm for improving sustainable transport links and creating healthier, more environmentally friendly ways to travel.
A great partnership between local organisations
Sharing the stall with Climate Action Menston and Menston Area Nature Trust provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the range of environmental initiatives taking place locally. Together, we were able to highlight the important work being undertaken to reduce carbon emissions, protect local wildlife, encourage active travel, and create a greener future for our communities.
The many conversations throughout the day demonstrated just how much interest there is in local action and how willing people are to play their part in making a difference.
We were proud to stand alongside so many groups working toward a more sustainable, connected, and climate‑friendly Wharfedale.
A great partnership between local organisations
One of the highlights of the day was undoubtedly Climate Action Menston’s wonderful smoothie bike. Visitors of all ages had the chance to create their own delicious fruit smoothies using pedal power alone.
The bike proved extremely popular, with children and adults alike enjoying the challenge of generating enough energy to blend their drinks. It was a fun and engaging way to demonstrate renewable energy in action and show how small changes can help contribute to a more sustainable future.
