Friends of Wharfedale Greenway at the Ilkley People’s Emergency Meeting – 15 May 2026

The Ilkley People’s Emergency Meeting, hosted by Climate Action Ilkley on 15 May 2026, brought together residents, campaigners, and community groups to discuss the urgent challenges facing our local environment. Friends of Wharfedale Greenway were delighted to attend and share updates on the progress of the Wharfedale Greenway project.

The event was very well attended, with a strong sense of shared purpose in the room. The film sent a powerful message about the climate crisis we are facing and what we can do to help prevent it.

Our volunteers spoke with many people who were keen to learn more about the Greenway, how it will benefit Ilkley and the wider valley, and what steps are needed next to move the project forward.

We heard from residents who walk, wheel, cycle, and commute locally – all eager to see safer, greener, and better‑connected routes between our communities. Many visitors asked for a progress update, and we were pleased to share the latest developments, including ongoing discussions with local authorities and the continued support the project is receiving from across Wharfedale.

Events like this show just how much enthusiasm there is for the Greenway. Every conversation helps strengthen the case for a route that will provide:

  • Safe, accessible travel for walking, cycling, and wheeling
  • Reduced traffic and emissions across the valley
  • A healthier, more connected community
  • A green corridor supporting biodiversity and wellbeing

We’re grateful to Climate Action Ilkley for hosting such a constructive and inspiring meeting, and to everyone who took the time to speak with us. Your support continues to drive this project forward.

Together, we can help make the Wharfedale Greenway a reality.
