Friends of Wharfedale Greenway at the Ilkley People’s Emergency Meeting – 15 May 2026

On May 15, 2026, the Friends of Wharfedale Greenway (FOWG) were pleased to attend a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing, hosted by Climate Action Ilkley. The event centred around an incredibly powerful film fronted by Chris Packham (you can watch the trailer here), followed by a community discussion on actionable steps we can take to mitigate climate change.

It was a fantastic opportunity to bring together residents, campaigners, and community groups to address the urgent environmental challenges facing our local area. FOWG volunteers were delighted to attend and share updates on the progress of the Wharfedale Greenway project.

The screening saw a great turnout, with Robbie Moore MP, local politicians, and various community representatives in attendance. The film sent a clear, urgent message about the climate crisis and the preventative measures we must take. Following the screening, our volunteers spoke with many attendees who were eager to learn more about the Greenway, how it will help valley residents reduce their carbon footprint, and what is needed to move the project forward. We were particularly pleased that Robbie Moore took the time to chat with us about the project’s development and the support required to reach our next milestones.

Events like this highlight the incredible local enthusiasm for the Greenway. Every conversation strengthens the case for a route that will provide:

  • Safe, accessible travel for walking, cycling, and wheeling
  • Reduced traffic and emissions across the valley
  • A healthier, more connected community
  • A green corridor supporting biodiversity and wellbeing

We are incredibly grateful to Climate Action Ilkley for hosting such a constructive and inspiring meeting, and to everyone who took the time to speak with us. If your community group is interested in hosting a screening of the film, please contact Climate Action Ilkley to learn more.
