Momentum Builds for Wharfedale Greenway: A Collaborative Push for Progress

Uniting for Active Travel: A Powerful Step Forward in Wharfedale Greenway’s Journey
Earlier this week, the Friends of Wharfedale Greenway gathered for a pivotal meeting with MP Anna Dixon and a broad coalition of stakeholders, all driven by a shared mission: to advance the Wharfedale Greenway and realise its potential as a transformative route for walkers, cyclists, and wheelers—connecting communities and championing active travel across the region.
Following a walk along part of the proposed route in Burley in Wharfedale, the meeting brought together voices from across the area—local councillors, WYCA, Active Travel England, and other council officials—all determined to help make safe, traffic-free routes a reality. MP Anna Dixon’s participation reinforced strong parliamentary interest and highlighted the value of local action and partnership.
The discussion was full of practical ideas and forward thinking—from funding opportunities and planning permissions to ways the route could link schools, town centres, and green spaces. The Friends group emphasised the Greenway’s potential to boost active travel, ease congestion and strengthen community connections.
A short Facebook video captured the energy of the day, highlighting what could be possible with this initiative. It’s clear that the Greenway isn’t just a path—it’s a movement.
With continued support from MP Anna Dixon, neighbouring MPs and engaged stakeholders, we will continue to work together for the creation of a Wharfedale Greenway.
