Volunteer Event 2024

On Saturday 30th November, Friends of Wharfedale Greenway hosted our first Volunteer Event Day at Beech Hill Church in Otley. Thankfully the weather was much better than the previous Saturday!

Our aim was to invite anyone interested in volunteering their time and skills to help us achieve our goal for a traffic free route along the Wharfe Valley accessible to all.

We were thrilled with the turn out of people who came along to talk to us about how they could contribute. Their skill sets will be invaluable to supporting us in our next steps and we would like to sincerely thank you for your time and enthusiasm for the project.

We would also thank those involved with organising the successful event and for banking the fantastic cakes and to the Beech Hill Church for hosting us, what a terrific venue.

The event started with a presentation by our Chair, Colm McCann detailing where the plans are up to this point and what FoWG are trying to achieve.

We then opened up the discussion to hear what fantastic ideas and suggestions our visitors had.

It was incredibly refreshing to hear what we could be doing differently in the short term as well as longer term vision with those who’s skills could help us make a real difference in moving things forward. From engineering to design, stakeholder management and communications, we were blown away with the range of skills on offer.

Of course at our events we attend each year we are always asked “when is it going to be built?” Well maybe we will have some fresh updates in 2025 to tell you all.

And finally we had to make sure that all those lovely cakes and buns were eaten!

It’s not too late. If you feel you can help in any way, take a look at our Volunteer page and contact us by email or social media, we would love to hear from you!
