WHARFEDALE GREENWAY.This is a proposal to link Pool, Otley, Menston, Guiseley and Ilkley with a footpath/cycle route mostly following the old railway line.It is sponsored by the local Town and Parish Councils along with the very active Friends GroupIt's a long term project but below are details of the latest proposed works.Notification of short-term noise disturbanceWalk Wheel Cycle Trust are working with Leeds City Council and the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council to explore the feasibility of reinstating two bridges above the A65 and A6038 as part of any future Wharfedale Greenway. The drilling of four boreholes is planned between Monday 20th and Friday 24th, to check the condition of the former bridge abutments. Works will proceed from west to east. This is early investigative works and there are no current plans to reinstate the bridges. The work will inform the feasibility assessment and estimates for the cost of any future bridges. It is planned that setup, drilling and making good will be completed at one abutment per day. There may be some noise disturbance to those nearby between the hours of 0830 and 1630 when works are taking place.Walk Wheel Cycle Trust | Borehole drilling: Spring 2026 ... See MoreSee Less

We are delighted that 2025's successful 'Otley Walk to School Week' will be repeated this summer with funding from Otley Town Council, Wharfedale Naturalists and Otley City Councillors. Walk to School Week is an annual five-day campaign (running Monday 18th - Friday 22nd May 2026) organised by the charity Living Streets to encourage primary school pupils to walk, cycle, or scoot to school, reducing traffic and pollution while boosting health. 2026's theme in Otley is 'Walk with Wildife' and there will be lots of fun, nature-related assemblies and outdoor activities to complement the week of active travel. There will also be an art competition for children with winning entries exhibited at Wildlife Friendly Otley's Wildlife Arts Festival in October. In 2025, 345 children from four out of five primary schools used active travel to get to school for a week in May. That's 40% of all Otley primary school children! Aim for 500+ in 2026 and hope that schools and families will continue to promote active travel year-round. ... See MoreSee Less
